An Audioscobbler for the Roku Soundbridge

sbPopper is an Audioscrobbler for the Roku Soundbridge. This program monitors the songs that are playing on your Soundbridge and submits them to the Audioscrobbler database. The songs you play will be remembered in your Last.fm profile. (Updated June 29, 2007.)

The 0.9 version stops running on June 10, 2007. I expect to have a new version ready for download before then without any restrictions.

ah sorry one more thing….is it working with internetradio station which send tags along with the song stream?

  5. sjs says:

Good question about the internet radio stations. I will check it out if you give me an example of a station that sends tags along with the song.

[...] seems someone has finally come up with a way to submit tracks played on a Roku SoundBridge to Last.fm. This means [...]

To answer the question above – Paradise is an example ‘net radio station that updates the track name when changing songs … http://www.radioparadise.com

New version uploaded today. Download sbPopper.

  9. sjs says:

Last.FM updated their client (to 1.3.0.62) with an incompatible protocol. The symptom is that Last.FM isn’t updated. A new version of sbPopper uploaded today (1.0.0.4) fixes the problem.

Is there any way to specify the ip address of my soundbridge instead of having sbpopper look for it? I just upgraded my router to a dlink dir-655 which for some reason does not play nice with a soundbridge. My soundbridge cannot see my firefly media server anymore either since I’ve started using the dir-655. I started using twonkymedia instead which does work with the dir-655, but I’d like to still use sbpopper. Any suggestions?

BTW, great program I really missed my last.fm stats until I found this!

No, there is no way to specify the ip address of the Soundbridge. When sbPopper starts, it uses UPnP to search for any Soundbridge devices on the network. The UPnP protocol uses ‘multicast’ packets. You might want to check that your new router is configured to pass multicast packets. Is your computer on the same subnet as your Soundbridge (i.e. are all of the network numbers the same except the last ones, like 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.102)?

I’ll add a manual override to the IP address in the next spin of sbPopper.

looking forward for more information about this. thanks for sharing. Eugene

There are no updates to sbPopper for a long time and it doesn’t work on Vista/Windows 7. Probably related to ipv6, which is on per default on Vista/Win7. Tries to connect to the last.fm client via ::1:33367 which fails:

sbPopper.exe Error: 0 : LastFMClient: SendToASThread: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it ::1:33367
    at System.Net.Sockets.TcpClient..ctor(String hostname, Int32 port)
    at sbPopper.LastFMClient.SendToASThread(Object obj)

Do you maintain it any longer? If not, would you mind releasing the sourcecode?
